Since we started keeping cats, we started
attending cat shows. It
looked like a great deal of fun, and so in May, after much deliberation and frantic planning, we
entered Misty and Muffin in a CFA show in Dallas, in the Household Pet class (the class
for non-pedigreed cats).
It was a blast. Both kittys managed to final in all 8 rings, with Muffin taking
one "Best Cat" and Misty taking a "Second Best Cat" in one ring.
Muffin was a natural, and loved every minute of the attention. Misty would be happier at
home, so we won't be taking her again.
For better or worse, CFA doesn't have any sort of cumulative competition
program for household pets (allowing one to advance in titles after winning at multiple
shows, etc.), so we decided that we'd concentrate our CFA efforts on Premiership.
Of course, to do that, we needed a cat who is a candidate for Premiership.
This means a pedigreed cat, preferably one already registered in CFA, and one with good
conformation to the standards, and an attitude that lends itself to cat show attentions.
Fortunately, we met another wonderful exhibitor (a friend of a friend) who
liked what she had seen in the HHPs we were showing, and she graciously offered us a
wonderful blue point Birman
who was already a Grand Champion, and recently spayed, to show in Premiership.
Grand Champion, Grand Premier Hurrah Questarriva of BusyKitty
GC, GP Hurrah Questarriva of BusyKitty
- Bumper to her friends - is a 3 year old Blue Point Birman. She arrived in May 1996,
after a long trip from Rochester, Mn. After grabbing the wrong connecting flight in
Minneapolis, she inadvertantly ended up in Montreal instead of Dallas the night she headed
here. An embarassed airline hurried her back to Minneapolis, comped her for luxury
accomodations that night in Minneapolis, and hurried her onto a complimentary flight to
Dallas the next morning.
Completely unflappable, Bumper arrived the next morning at her new home,
stepped out of the carrier, took a sip of water, noted the location of the litterbox, and
immediately wanted some attention as the first order of business.
Bumper takes the obligatory show bath and grooming in stride, and she
enjoys being handled. She's a natural at cat shows, enjoying the attention and kissing up
to the judges. Just the kind of kitty we needed to show us the ropes. Bumper received her
Premiership on 7/21/96 at the Ft. Worth Cat Fancier's show, and became a Grand Premier
four shows later, at the hands of CFA judge Kitty Angell, at the Oklahoma City Cat Club
show on 12/1/96.
Thanks to the fine folks at The Birman
Home Page, you can now view Bumper's
pedigree online.
"Situation Wanted Found!"
Since Bumper didn't get along with other female cats, we were very pleased
to recently find her a special new home where she can be queen kitty! She took along
her buddy Muffin to keep her company and be her royal subject.
Premier VonKaiser Richochet of BusyKitty -- "Ripley"
PR VonKaiser Richochet of BusyKitty
("Ripley") came into our lives in August 1996 by the good offices of his
breeder, Lynda Kaiser. Ripley is a Platinum Mink Tonkinese,
son of Grand Champion and Gulf Shores Regional Winner Vonkaiser Lional Chunk, and was
shown as a kitten until November of 1996. He's just began his run in Premiership. He's one
of the most affectionate cats you'd ever want to meet under most circumstances, but he's
currently having more than a little attitude problem at the shows. We're hoping he'll grow
out of it soon. If not, then he'll stay home and keep the pillows warm for awhile until he
feels better about it.
Grand Champion, Premier Kotickee's Oda of BusyKitty
 |
| Kotickee's Oda of
BusyKitty |
Oda is an odd-eyed white Devon Rex. This means that she
has one green eye, and one blue eye.
 |
| "Oda Hears a
Who" |
Combined with her curly coat, pixie face, petite body,
enormous ears and squeaky little voice, this leaves an almost otherworldly cute
impression. Oda is the daughter of the first (and only) male Devon to receive recognition
in CFA for Distinguished Merit, Kotickee's Raoul. Five years old on 1/11/97, Oda has
retired her show career, and has gone on to be an exclusive pillow-kitty in a loving new
pet home.
Oda introduced us to our other love in pedigreed cats, the Devon Rex. You
can learn more about Devons in our Devon Section.
Kotickee's Ms. Behavin of BusyKitty --
"Beau Peep"
 |
Kotickee's Ms.
Behavin
of BusyKitty (at 5 months) |
|
Our next Devon was Kotickee's Ms. Behavin of
BusyKitty -- "Beau Peep" (or more often, just "Peep") to her friends.
Shown here at 5 months of age, she's one of the busiest Busy Kitty of the bunch. Gold
eyed white with curly coat, elf face, bat-wing ears, Peep has gone on temporary hiatus
from her show career, to pursue some work on the Mommy Track. As the foundation
queen of our Devon Rex program, Peep has produced some lovely kittens in her first litter.
You may view her Pedigree here. |

my picture tooked!!!" |
Master Raggamuffin of Busykitty
We would be remiss to not mention Ralph once again (see The Crew section) as
part of the show cast. Muffin has displayed true grace in a number of Household Pet rings
in CFA, but unfortunately they don't count towards any sort of competitive program.
Muffin has, however, attended his first TICA show, where HHPs are fiercely
competitive, and held his own, just slightly shy of becoming a TICA Grand Master. Muffin
has since retired his show career to accompany Bumper to a special pet home!
Champion Cactuscat's Redbug of Busykitty -- "Chigger"
Redbug -- "Chigger" to his
friends (it's a Texas thang), is a Red Classic Tabby American Shorthair who
is here both being shown as a Champion, and as the father to our new Devon hybrid program. Chigger is a typically
laid-back American Shorthair, and a typically goofy red boy.
Champion Shedere Knight Blazer of
Busykitty -- "Knight"
Knight came to us in November of 1997 as the foundation stud of our Devon
Rex program. He's a lovely blue Devon boy, and is currently being shown in
Championship on CFA's Gulf Shore's region.
Busykitty's Stepping Razor -- "Gillette"
- If you want to live,
- treat me good.
- If you want to live, live, live,
- I bet you treat me good.
- I'm like a stepping razor,
- Don't you watch my size
-- I'm dangerous;
- Dangerous.
- I'm like a stepping razor,
- Don't you watch my size
-- I'm dangerous;
dangerous.
- If you dream,
- treat me good.
- and if you eat, drink,
- treat me good.
- I'm like a flashing laser,
- Got a roiling tongue
-- I'm dangerous;
- Dangerous.
- I'm like a stepping razor,
- Don't you watch my size
-- I'm dangerous;
- I'm dangerous.
